If you’re looking for a little more luxury, you’ll be delighted by Casa Paradisu in L’Île-Rousse. As soon as we entered, we felt a wave of relaxation wash over us. The garden is enchanting and the pool ideal for relaxing. And we really enjoyed our dinner in the restaurant facing the garden.

Best 4-star hotel in Balagne (our favorite)
L’hôte LIbertada à L’Île-Rousse: It’s hard not to fall in love with this charming hotel: the colors, the decor and, what’s more, the sea views from the balcony.
And to cool off, we could choose between the pool or the beach, just 2 steps from the hotel!

On the beach side in Calvi, we found the decoration of the Onda hotel very successful. It’s warm, modern and soothing. A great experience!

Where to stay in Balagne: best towns and villages
Balagne is a beautiful region organized around two very different towns. You can go to L’Île-Rousse or Calvi(see our comparison of the two) or to towns in between. Once you’ve chosen your holiday destination, take a look at our guide to what to do in Balagne.
Lodging in L’Île-Rousse
Benefits:
- Beaches: L’Île-Rousse is renowned for its superb sandy beaches, and there’s already a beach in the town.
- Charm: The town has a charming historic center with narrow streets, colorful houses and a lively main square.
- Relaxed atmosphere: despite the influx of tourists, it retains a calm, relaxed ambience.
- Nature: the islands of La Pietra, the villages of Balagne, the Saleccia park – there’s plenty to do in the region.
Disadvantages:
- Activities: L’Île-Rousse is smaller than Calvi and offers fewer activities and tours.
- Crowded: in summer, beaches and streets can be crowded, which can reduce privacy and tranquility.

Staying in Calvi
Benefits:
- Beaches: Calvi is renowned for its spectacular beaches. Calvi’s main beach is a stretch of fine sand overlooking the citadel.
- Historic citadel overlooking the city
- Water sports: diving, jet-skiing, paddle, kayaking and many other activities to enjoy the sea.
- Lively nightlife
Disadvantages:
- Tourist numbers: Calvi is a popular tourist destination
- Bigger, less charm: we find the town less charming than L’Île-Rousse.

Sleeping on the coast
Benefits:
- Close to beaches
- Smaller center, less stress
- Closer to the sea, less construction
Disadvantages:
- Some villages have charm, but on the whole less than the villages in the hills.
- Beaches are crowded in summer, and this can make for a less pleasant stay.
- Fewer dining and activity options
Sleeping in the villages of Balagne
Benefits:
- Village charm
- Calm and serenity
- Magnificent mountain and sea views.
Disadvantages:
- Fewer dining and activity options
- Access to some villages is via narrow, winding roads.
Balagne is beautiful and one of our favorite places to stay in Corsica.
OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Corsica
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is powerful enough (the roads are steep) but compact (some passages are narrow).
- Think of thecomplete insurance (some roads are tortuous and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.
1. Hôtel Casa Paradisu (L’Île-Rousse, 5 stars)
Why stay at Hotel Casa Paradisu
What a delightful setting!
We loved our stay at Casa Paradisu. From the moment we entered the building, with its white walls and lush vegetation, we felt the sense of relaxation sweep over us.
The gardens are magnificent (especially when we were there in May) and the swimming pool with its solarium in the water is a real success.
We also really appreciated the large bathroom.
And the day ended brilliantly with a dinner in the hotel restaurant featuring delicious Mediterranean flavors. The detox cocktail at the start of the meal whetted our appetites!

Why stay at the Hotel Liberata
If you’re looking for a unique and authentic experience in L’Île-Rousse, Hotel Liberata is the perfect choice. This establishment offers you much more than just accommodation, but an immersion in the charm and traditional atmosphere of the region.
Located close to the main beach and picturesque lanes, we were immediately charmed by this Corsican character house.
Once in the room, the charm continues to work on us with a warm decor and magnificent sea views from our terrace.
The beach is really only a few steps away, but if you prefer, the hotel still has a swimming pool.

We enjoyed the spacious rooms and the view of the sea, pine trees and mountains.
And this hotel is just a few steps from Calvi’s magnificent beach overlooking the citadel.

4. Hotel Kasano (Calvi, 4 stars)
Why stay at the Hotel Kasano
We really enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Kasano: the location, the decor, the artwork… and above all the welcome!
After a long day of narrow, winding roads, we arrived exhausted at the hotel and were made very welcome.
First of all, the hotel is located right opposite the citadel, but it still has underground parking, which is really very convenient.
Then our room was large and elegantly decorated with a view of the pool and sea. But we were able to see other rooms with a view of the citadel and that’s worth a look too.
A relaxing and inspiring atmosphere pervaded the hotel.

5. Hôtel Rocabella (L’Île-Rousse, 4 stars)
Why stay at Hotel Rocabella
We love the Rocabella hotel and its Jacuzzi suite.
We had an excellent stay here, close to the old town. Our suite was elegantly decorated, with quality materials, great taste (in our opinion) and a large sea-view terrace.
The hardest part was choosing where to sit: the armchairs, the sofa, the bed, the deckchairs, the outdoor chairs!
And we also really enjoyed relaxing in the Jacuzzi, nibbling on the cookies offered on arrival.

Why stay at the Saletta Mare hotel
This hotel has it all:
– very close to the beaches and the center but not in the middle so quieter
– spacious, especially if you’re bringing the whole family
– a beautiful swimming pool overlooking L’Île-Rousse and the Pietra islands
– the possibility of cooking so you don’t have to eat out all the time
We were charmed by its architecture, which blends into the surrounding natural environment. We think this apartment-hotel is a great success.

7. Hotel A Casa Di Ma (4 stars, village Lumio)
Why stay at the hotel A Casa di Ma
Admittedly, this hotel isn’t in Calvi itself, but it’s not far away, in the charming village of Lumio, and offers superb views over the bay, so we decided to include it in this list.
We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel, with its chic, contemporary and sober decor. This doesn’t detract from the exceptional views.
The atmosphere is subdued throughout the hotel, including in the Michelin-starred restaurant where we enjoyed the Découverte menu with fish and meat cooked to perfection!

Nestled in the hills above Calvi, this luxury hotel transports you into a world of comfort and elegance.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we enjoyed admiring the citadel in a soothing, serene atmosphere.
Our visit to the restaurant was unforgettable, with well-spaced tables and an elegant atmosphere. The chef works with fish and seafood in a very tasty way.
All that was left to do was dive into the indoor pool, or relax in the outdoor pool!

Why stay at Hotel l’Acquale
Argghhh, we ran out of time to climb up to the rooftop of this hotel and show you the views from the rooms and bar. Check out the photos!
But we’ll be back, and we’ll get one of the suites with Jacuzzi to show you.
This hotel offers spectacular views of the town of Calvi, the citadel, the bay and the mountains. Rooms are spacious and beautifully decorated, with contemporary touches and high-quality materials.
After a long day exploring, you can relax by the pool before heading up to the rooftop for a drink and a view of the sunset.
