FAQ — Parking in Sartène

Is it hard to park in Sartène?

Unlike Bonifacio or Ajaccio, parking in Sartène is generally straightforward, as the town is significantly smaller. But there aren’t many options, and the city is touristy. If you ‘re visiting Sartène in July or August, however, it’s best to plan ahead: we recommend arriving before 10 a.m. to avoid the crowds of day-trippers.

View of Sartène

Although it is considered one of the most beautiful towns in Corsica, Sartène has only a limited number of parking options, as it is a small town. We’ve summarized them here to help you quickly choose the option that best suits your needs.

Parking on the street in Sartène

In Sartène, street parking remains a viable option, unlike in more constrained towns such as Bonifacio.

  • Gabriel Péri Avenue, which runs along the edge of the village center, offers several parking spaces available to visitors.
  • Avenue Jean Nicoli is another appealing option: we particularly enjoy the stroll it offers all the way to the village center, punctuated by beautiful views of the surrounding hills. We recommend this option if you don’t mind a short walk, as it allows you to combine parking with a first glimpse of the village.
  • Open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., if the hours haven’t changed…

The main parking lot: Bassacciu Parking Lot

The Bassacciu Parking Lot is the most convenient option for those who prefer to avoid street parking. Located near the village center, it’s just a few minutes’ walk to the historic streets.

However, please be advised: this parking lot fills up quickly during peak season, especially in July and August. We therefore strongly recommend arriving before 10 a.m. to be sure of finding a spot, especially if you’re visiting Sartène on market day.

  • If you’re staying in Sartène, ask your host about parking options
  • Do not leave any items or luggage visible inside the vehicle; store your belongings in the locked trunk before you arrive.

  • Remember to take outcomprehensive insurance (some roads are winding and narrow).
  • There is a lot of demand, book it early.

Where can I park for free in Sartène?

In the upper part of the village, there may be some side streets with a few free parking spots, but these are residential areas, so be careful not to inconvenience the locals. And venturing into the narrow streets of an old Corsican town isn’t recommended if you don’t know how wide the streets are…

Where should you avoid parking in Sartène?

As in most Corsican villages with a rich historical heritage, certain precautions are necessary in Sartène. We recommend that you avoid driving your vehicle through the narrowest streets of the historic center, where traffic can quickly become difficult to navigate.

We also recommend that you never park in front of access points reserved for residents, which are generally marked by local signage; doing so may result in a fine.
And don’t park at the edge of town, where there’s a yellow line!
