Is it hard to find parking in L’Île-Rousse?
No, parking in L’Île-Rousse is generally affordable, especially compared to other cities in Corsica. The city offers several paid municipal parking lots in the downtown area, supplemented by free parking zones on the outskirts and numerous on-street parking spaces available year-round.
We appreciated the fact that, since 2021, the municipality has chosen to make parking free outside the tourist season. The main challenge comes in the middle of summer, when the seats in the center fill up quickly by mid-morning. We therefore recommend that you plan to arrive early if you are visiting the city between June and September.

OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Corsica
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is powerful enough (the roads are steep) but compact (some passages are narrow).
- Remember to take outcomprehensive insurance (some roads are winding and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.

Parking in L’Île-Rousse: Summary
Parking on the street
It is perfectly possible to park on the streets of L’Île-Rousse. However, parking spaces are limited, especially in the city center and during peak season, and we recommend that you never park on a crosswalk, in a loading zone, or in front of a house’s gate.
These violations are monitored by the municipality and may result in a fine. For the streets around Place Paoli and the historic center, it’s best to arrive early in the morning during the summer if you want to have any chance of finding a parking spot.

Free parking
L’Île-Rousse is one of the few tourist towns in Corsica to offer several truly free options. The Fornole Parking Lot, the Gymnasium Parking Lot (also known as COSEC), and the Îles de la Pietra Parking Lot are available free of charge year-round.
In addition, during the winter, the three municipal paid parking lots in the city center also become free every winter, from November 1 to March 31. More details on each of these options are provided later in the article.

- If you visit the city between November and March, all municipal parking lots are free

Where to park to get closer to specific locations in L’Île-Rousse
L’Île-Rousse is a small town, but its attractions are spread out across the historic center, the waterfront, and the Pietra Islands. Here are our recommendations for each sector.
See our article on the best attractions in L’Île-Rousse.
Where to park when visiting the historic center: Place Paoli and the pedestrian streets
To get to Place Pascal Paoli, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, and the covered market, the Napoleon Parking Garage is the most convenient option. It’s just a short walk from the heart of the city, making it easy to explore the pedestrian streets lined with restaurants and shops on foot.

We especially appreciate how close this parking lot is to the church and its century-old palm trees. If this one is full, the Parking de la Poste is an alternative just a few minutes’ walk away.
Where to park to visit the Pietra Islands and the lighthouse
The walk to the Pietra Islands and their lighthouse is the most popular activity in L’Île-Rousse. To get as close as possible, there are two main options:
- Îles de la Pietra Parking Lot — free, located across from the Brasserie du Port, right at the start of the promenade
- Parking Maritime — paid parking during the season, a short walk from the start of the promenade

Where to Park to Enjoy the Beach
L’Île-Rousse Beach is located right next to Place Paoli, making it particularly easy to reach from downtown. The Napoleon Parking Lot is therefore still the best option for reaching the beach on foot in just a few minutes. For Bodri Beach, about a 10-minute drive away, there is a dedicated parking lot on site, which charges a fee during the summer.
