Are you looking for a white sandy beach suitable for water sports in Corse-du-Sud? Piantarella Beach offers an exceptional setting in the magnificent Bay of Piantarella, with its azure blue gradations and sandbank. We were seduced by this lively beach, which attracts windsurfers, wingfoilers and other water sports enthusiasts.
In this article, you’ll find our photos and tips for making the most of your visit to Piantarella Beach.

This guide is completely independent, based on our experiences. We visited the region anonymously, making our own choices and paying our bills in full.
Is Piantarella Beach worth it?
Yes, it’s a beautiful beach and well worth a visit. This stretch of white sand won us over with its Bay of Piantarella, with its magnificent shades of azure blue. We particularly appreciated the possibility of renting a kayak to reach the Grotte des Amoureux or the Lavezzi Islands. The beach has a sporty feel to it, with plenty of options for windsurfing, wingfoiling and jet skiing. This beach is not ideal for lazing around, however, as the sandy area is covered with seaweed (Posidonia meadows).

Type of beach
Sand or no sand?
The soil at Plage de Piantarella is made up of white sand, but most of it is covered with Posidonia meadows, marine plants essential to the Mediterranean ecosystem. This feature gives the beach a natural, unspoilt look, but doesn’t invite you to spread out your towel and sunbathe.

Swimming conditions and supervision
Entry into the water is gentle, as the overall water level remains low for a long distance. We found that it’s even possible to walk across to Île Piana on a sandbar. However, we would like to warn you about the strong currents and dangerous deportation that can occur. This beach is more suited to water sports than sunbathing and lounging.
We didn’t see any signs indicating that the beach is supervised.

Installations
We found wheelchair-accessible toilets by the beach. Plage de Piantarella also offers a full range of water sports equipment for hire: pedalos, kayaks, windsurfing, wingfoil, boats, jet skis, windsurf boards and stand-up paddleboards. You can also enjoy a boat trip to the islands or an underwater cruise. For on-site refreshments, there’s a snack bar offering drinks, ice creams and sandwiches, and a pizzeria.

Piantarella beach in Corse-du-Sud: how to get there
Where is Piantarella Beach?
- East of Bonifacio, in Corse-du-Sud
- 15min drive from Bonifacio
- Starting point for the Petit Sperone Beach and Grand Sperone Beach hikes
Access by car and parking
To reach the beach by car from Bonifacio, take the D260 and then the Route de Piantarella. Please note that there is no on-site parking: visitors park in a row on both sides of the rather narrow road. We recommend arriving early to find a seat, especially in high season.

OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Corsica
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is powerful enough (the roads are steep) but compact (some passages are narrow).
- Think of thecomplete insurance (some roads are tortuous and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.

Access from the parking lot
Once you’ve parked your car along the Route de Piantarella, you’ll need to walk about 5min along the water from the water sports equipment rental spot and the boat dock. Please note that this route takes in very uneven and slippery rock, which can make progress tricky.

Public transport access
Public transport access to this isolated beach is limited. We recommend that you have your own vehicle to get to Plage de Piantarella, the starting point for the hike to Plage du Petit Sperone.

Special features
Dog
We didn’t see any signs about dog access to the beach.
Reduced mobility access
Wheelchair-accessible toilets are available. However, we must point out that access to the sandy area is almost impossible for people with reduced mobility, as they have to walk along the water on very uneven and slippery rocks. This configuration makes the beach difficult to access, but the water sports equipment rental spot and starting point for boat trips remains accessible to all.

With children
Piantarella Beach is not recommended for children. We have observed strong currents that can represent a danger. What’s more, the lack of supervision makes swimming risky for the very young. The conditions of this beach are better suited to adults practicing water sports than to families looking for a safe place to swim.

Naturism
It is not possible to practice naturism on this beach.
Eating out
There’s also a snack bar offering drinks, ice creams and sandwiches to refresh you between water sports sessions. The Pizzeria le Ponton completes the restaurant offer in the immediate vicinity of the beach. These options allow you to eat without having to leave the premises.
