What are the difficulties?
The uneven floor
The trail features a rugged terrain of rocks, packed earth and tree roots. We recommend that you wear suitable hiking boots to avoid slipping on uneven surfaces.
Crossing the river
A wider section of the river requires you to walk over a pile of rocks and branches. This crossing requires a little balance and care to avoid getting your feet wet.

Fire hazards
Scrupulously follow safety instructions, especially during the summer months when the risk of fire is high in Corsica.
Limited access to the waterfall
The final section of the trail to the base of the waterfall is closed to the public for safety reasons. We advise you to find out more before your visit.

OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Corsica
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is powerful enough (the roads are steep) but compact (some passages are narrow).
- Think of thecomplete insurance (some roads are tortuous and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.

Useful tips
For how long?
Allow around 1h30 for the round trip at a leisurely pace. This allows you to take full advantage of the various points of interest along the route without rushing.

Best moment
We advise you to leave early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat in high season. Spring and autumn offer ideal conditions, with greener vegetation and mild temperatures. Check weather conditions before you go. In case of rain, we advise you not to go, as the river level could rise, making certain passages inaccessible.

The meaning of hiking
This is a round-trip itinerary. Follow the yellow signs to the waterfall viewpoint, then turn back along the same path. Directional signs clearly point the way to the waterfall and the reception area.

Reduce hiking
You can shorten the route by stopping at Sentinel Rock to admire the rock formations and views, then turn back. This option will still allow you to appreciate the beauty of the forest and the tafoni sculpted by erosion.

Hiking with children
This hike is suitable for families with children who are used to walking. We recommend particular vigilance when crossing rivers and on rocky passages. The playfulness of the rock crossing is sure to please even the youngest adventurers!

Installations
At the parking lot and reception, you’ll find Restaurant La Cascade and Snack Bar U Diamente, offering welcome refreshments after a hike. Public toilets are also available.

Immersion in the Ospedale Forest
The start of the hike immediately immerses us in the unique atmosphere of the Forêt de l’Ospédale. We followed the yellow directional signs to the waterfall on one side and the reception area on the other, making it easy to find your way around the trail. The abundant vegetation surrounds you from the very first steps: majestic tall pines, varied shrubs, wild plants and colorful flowers create a remarkable natural setting.

The terrain is dotted with large, relatively flat, light-colored rocks typical of the South Corsican landscape. The uneven trail alternates between hard-packed earth and tree roots, requiring constant attention to secure your footing. A wooden bridge crosses the river, which meanders between rock formations, adding a picturesque note to this first part of the hike.

Acrobatic river crossing
Later, we encountered a much wider stretch of the river that was a bit of a challenge. To cross it, we stepped on a pile of rocks of varying sizes and tree branches, creating a natural balancing act. We managed not to get our feet wet during the crossing, which requires a bit of concentration and agility. Shortly after this passage, you’ll notice a slight rise that heralds the exit from the forest and a change in the landscape.

The view of the rock formations and the sea
The landscape suddenly changes to reveal the summit of the impressive rock formations that dominate the valley. But the highlight of the show was the discovery of the sea on the horizon, creating a striking contrast with the forest environment we had just explored! This unique natural spectacle harmoniously blends terrestrial and marine elements in an exceptional panorama.

This was one of our favorite moments of the hike, so spectacular and wild were the views. We sat down for a few minutes to contemplate this exceptional panorama, which unites land, sea and mountains in a grandiose natural tableau. You’ll certainly appreciate this well-deserved break to savor the unspoiled beauty of southern Corsica. This unique perspective alone justifies the effort required to reach this privileged vantage point.

Discovering Sentinel Rock
The majestic Sentinel Rock dominates the valley, offering a fascinating geological spectacle. We were particularly impressed by the tafoni, cavities carved into the rock by the erosion of alternating rain and wind over the millennia. These tafoni vary in size, and can even serve as natural shelters for shepherds on their travels.

The rock is made up of granite, a rock that is very common in southern Corsica and gives the island its distinctive mineral character. We consider this to be one of the highlights of the hike, as the geological formation is so spectacular and so revealing of the island’s natural history. You’re sure to be fascinated by these natural sculptures, which bear witness to the creative power of the elements over millions of years.

Contemplating the Piscia di Ghjaddu waterfall
As you descend towards the waterfall, you’ll come across a sapara, a rock shelter typical of Corsican pastoral heritage. During transhumance, shepherds took up residence in these natural shelters to protect themselves from the elements and keep an eye on their flocks.

After a few minutes’ further descent, you can see the top of the Piscia di Ghjaddu waterfall. Unfortunately, we saw a sign prohibiting access to the final section of the trail, limiting our progress towards the base of the waterfall. This last section was closed to the public at the time of our visit, for safety reasons related to ground conditions. So we had to retrace our steps, but the view from the authorized observation point is nevertheless pleasant, and allows us to imagine the majesty of this natural waterfall.

The return and prospect of a gourmet smoothie
Before starting our hike, we spotted the Snack Bar U Diamente at the reception desk. Freshly squeezed fruit juices and refreshing smoothies are on offer, as are simple dishes such as chicken-avocado tacos, burgers and Corsican charcuterie. The prospect of a cool, fruity drink at the finish particularly motivated us to retrace our route with gusto, knowing that a gourmet reward awaited us. The perfect way to round off your hike in style and, above all, shape, in an authentic Corsican setting!
