If you are looking to get away from the crowds of L’Île-Rousse, to soak up the sun in an idyllic setting, the beach of Lozari in Balagne is a great option, as it is one of the largest in the region.
Here is our guide to help you plan your visit: map, access, sand, conditions…

Why visit the beach of Lozari in Balagne?
Is the beach of Lozari worth it?
Yes. If you are looking for a larger beach with turquoise waters and a wilder landscape, Lozari beach is a good choice.
There is plenty of space for everyone and nice hills all around.
It is one of the most beautiful beaches around Ile-Rousse and in Balagne.

Why choose this beach?
If you are tired of being in the city, and you don’t want to drive too much from L’Île-Rousse, Lozari is a beautiful beach a bit wilder.
In addition, there are water activities, walks and restaurants.
However, it is important to know that the access to the water is more sloping than to other beaches in the area. And when it’s windy, the waves are quite big.
Note: it is often written Losari Beach with an “s”.

How to get to Lozari (near Ile-Rousse)
From the main road T30 along the west coast of Corsica, you have easy and short access to the parking lots of the beach of Lozari.
Be careful, the name of the beach is not necessarily indicated from the road.

OUR TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN Corsica
- Compare prices on our preferred platform: DiscoverCars – one of the best rated sites.
- Choose a car that is powerful enough (the roads are steep) but compact (some passages are narrow).
- Think of thecomplete insurance (some roads are tortuous and narrow).
- There is a lot of demand, book it early.

Parking lots
There are actually 2 parking areas.
They are quite large, and, last time I checked, still free.
They are open 24 hours a day.
On the other hand, these are dirt parking lots, so holes can form due to rain, so drive slowly.
The first parking lot is next to the Casa di Losari, at the southwestern tip of the beach. In Google maps, the parking lot is identified as “parking de Losari”.
The second, larger one is in the middle of the beach. In Google maps, the parking lot is identified as “parking Losari beach”.
As in any isolated tourist place, do not leave anything visible in the car. There may be thieves everywhere.

Access from the parking lot
The access is very easy from the parking lot.
The trails are well marked and it is relatively flat.
You can reach the sandy beach in less than 5 minutes by foot.

On the sand and in the water… practical advice
Best time to visit
This beach is pleasant all year round.
In winter, even if the water is too cool, you can enjoy beautiful views, the river, walks to the Genoese towers.
As for Corsica in general, there are many more people in summer, and especially between mid-July and mid-August. At this time, it is better to visit early.
The beach is oriented more to the northwest.

The sand

It is a rather white sand. It is not as fine as on the beach of Bodri (for example) but it is not unpleasant.
Note that at any period, some beaches in Corsica can be covered with algae (Posidonia meadows). This can happen at any beach but not at the same time. It’s random. This is essential for the ecosystem, but if it happens, know that the beach looks much less heavenly.
Conditions for swimming and with children – is it dangerous?
Be careful, this beach is not dangerous but it is not suitable for everyone.
The slope to enter the water is quite steep. It is therefore not ideal with young children.
It is also to be avoided in case of strong wind, because it is not at all sheltered. There are then quite a few waves.
And the beach is not supervised.
Nautical activities
There is a nautical base in the middle of the beach. This one is open in summer.
There are rentals of quad bikes and jet skis, paddle boards, pedal boats and kayaks…
On the other hand, last time I checked, there were no deckchairs or umbrellas for rent.
Conditions with a dog
Dogs are allowed if they are kept on a leash.

Natural site, river and hikes
A Casa di Losari

All around the beach, the natural site extends over about 8 km of coastline. It covers the rocky coastline, meadows, scrubland and holm oak woods.
Next to the south parking lot, there is a building called A Casa di Losari”.
If it is open, you can learn more about the ecosystem of the place.
The area has been home to a golf course and a winery. But the land was bought back in 2010 in an effort to conserve nature.
River Reginu

The Reginu river ends in a marshy area when it meets the sea.
The southern area of the beach is therefore wilder than the middle and northern areas.
To the north, you have direct access to vacation villages and the village of Belgodère.
Walking trails around the beach

If you want to stretch your legs, there are several trails in the area.
- West of the beach; the tower trail
You can, for example, go and see the Genoese tower of Losari. It was built around 1580, destroyed during a raid in 1584 and then rebuilt.
You cross the maquis to enjoy wonderful panoramas towards the Agriates desert on one side and Île-Rousse on the other. - Going up the river, the Reginu trail
To discover other ecosystems, riparian vegetation and a magnificent tamarisk.
Restaurant at the beach of Lozari
On the beach of Lozari, you can find 2 restaurants:
- Vava’u Chez Taté
In the middle of the beach, open all day. Less sea view (but more on the mountains) and a very good tasty cuisine: salads, pasta, meat, fish… Be careful, not sure they take the CB. - Restaurant le Pavillon
South-west of the beach, with a terrace with sea view – you can find salads, meat and fish, ice creams, drinks – open for lunch.

What to do nearby?
Beach of Ostriconi

One of our favorite beaches in Balagne and Corsica.
It requires a 25min drive from L’Île-Rousse, it’s the farthest but it’s worth it!
Ostriconi is less often mentioned in the lists of the best places in Corsica, because it is not close to a big city. However, this is one of the views that blew us away the most while visiting the island.
The beach of Ostriconi offers: a long strip of white sand, small dunes, completely wild views, waters with intense colors… And the rocks of the Agriates desert in the background.
Visit the villages of northern Balagne

The Balagne region is also known for its charming villages in the hills with their typical Corsican houses and their unobstructed views between sea and mountains.
Near the beach of Lozari, you have Palasca, Belgodère and one of our favorites: Speluncato
Learn more about the villages of the Balagne.
Visit Île-Rousse

To the south, you can also visit the pretty seaside resort of L’Île-Rousse.
Welcoming and relaxed, its center has a lot of charm with colorful houses. And the walk to the islands of the Pietra is a must.

Explore the Agriates desert

And to the north, leaving the Balagne region and heading towards Saint-Florent, you can explore the Agraites desert: by boat, by 4WD and on foot. It is a magnificent region with maquis, pine trees and dream beaches (including the famous Saleccia).
