1. Find the best views of Sart\u00e8ne<\/h2>\n\n

Why look for the best view in town?<\/h3>\n\n

Sart\u00e8ne is nestled in a magnificent green setting. Between the mountains on one side, and the picturesque town on the other, we were completely seduced by the panorama. Throughout the city, you’ll find several vantage points from which to appreciate the enchanting beauty of Corsica. <\/p>\n\n

We walked outside the historic center to enjoy a panoramic view of the city. Strolling along the T40 towards Ajaccio, you’ll come across an interesting viewpoint just a few meters from the San Micheli wine estate. We took the photo below right there. The lush vegetation and rolling landscape charmed us! <\/p>\n\n

You can also climb up to the Monument de la R\u00e9sistance at mont\u00e9e Route Boni. Once up there, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking view of Sart\u00e8ne in the foreground, and the mountains on the horizon. Bring good shoes, as the road is steep.<\/p>\n\n

Beyond the magnificent surrounding landscape, we loved wandering around the town, whose ramparts seemed to blend into the rock. We observed the stone buildings, with their sturdy facades and tiled roofs. They stood proudly atop the promontory. The narrow, winding streets were punctuated by picturesque squares. Take advantage of this romantic stroll to get out your camera and immortalize this exceptionally rich setting. <\/p>\n\n

We recommend you allow 2 hours to explore Sart\u00e8ne’s best viewpoints. You’ll find several that offer different perspectives on the city and its surroundings. <\/p>\n\n

Sart\u00e8ne’s architecture reflects the rich and complex history of this Corsican town. A stroll through its cobbled streets reveals a fascinating mix of influences, from medieval to baroque and contemporary. We really enjoyed discovering the city and its hidden treasures.<\/p>\n\n

2. Contemplate the ramparts and the watchtower<\/h2>\n\n

Why look for Sart\u00e8ne’s watchtower?<\/h3>\n\n

How can you visit Sart\u00e8ne and not make a detour to see its famous watchtower? Built at the end of the 16th century, it forms part of the ramparts that surround the town. We took a look at the slender loopholes running through it, allowing us to shoot at the enemy from a protected position. Designated a historic monument<\/a>, it has become the symbol of the town. It’s an important vestige of local history, as it’s the only part of the protective bastion erected in the Pitraghju district. In 1583, the watchtower’s strategic location helped raise the alarm when barbarian pirates attacked Sart\u00e8ne. This watchtower from a bygone era was a real eye-catcher! <\/p>\n\n

You can see the ramparts surrounding the town, and its famous watchtower. The low-angle view of the fortifications from the T40 (opposite the San Micheli Estate) is impressive.<\/p>\n\n

How much time to allow<\/h3>\n\n

To tour the city’s fortifications, we recommend you allow 1 hour. As Sart\u00e8ne is on a slope, you’ll need to alternate regularly between going downhill and uphill. Several staircases lead directly into the historic center, but they can be quite steep (see our photo above).<\/p>\n\n

The watchtower no longer serves the same function as when it was first created. Today, Restaurant Le Jardin de l’Echauguette<\/a> has transformed the site into a pleasant elevated terrace. Here you can dine on traditional Corsican meals in an original setting.<\/p>\n\n
