You won&#8217;t be bored.<br\/>It&#8217;s more a question of <strong>being able to choose<\/strong>.<br\/>So here is, in pictures, our selection of the most beautiful places of North Corsica: beaches, cities, villages&#8230; and also our favorite activities.<br\/>Everything to help you plan a wonderful trip!<\/p>\n\n<p><em>Note, there is no official region called North Corsica. The French department is called Haute-Corse. We visited the area anonymously, making our own choices and paying all our bills in full.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1 &#8211; Admire the citadel of Calvi, a must in Northern Corsica<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Corsica\/6a-Calvi-plage\/i-8nPFbNH\/2\/ff901a55\/L\/plage_calvi_Corse-18-L.jpg\" alt=\"View on the citadel of Calvi or sunset\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why is this?<\/h3>\n\n<p>The citadel of Calvi is one of the most recognizable places in Northern Corsica.<br\/>It was built under the Genoese government, between 1483 and the 17th century in order to have stronger defenses. It combines beaches and charming villages.<br\/>These villages of Balagnes are distributed on the hills between the mountain and the sea.<br\/>Often installed on the summits to better protect themselves, they have managed to preserve their heritage and their atmosphere.<br\/>These small &#8220;fortress villages&#8221; offer beautiful views and a long history.<br\/>Among our favorites:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/corsicalovers.fr\/en\/village-pigna-balagne-corsica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pigna<\/a>: built on top of a hill recognizable by its blue shutters. The city takes its name from the small <a href=\"https:\/\/corsicalovers.fr\/en\/lighthouse-pietra-island-ile-rousse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">islands of Pietra<\/a> where the rocks turn red at sunset.<br\/>Its original name was Isola Rossa, since Italian was the administrative language at the time. However, there are plenty of giant boulders to play with!<br\/>It is one of <a href=\"https:\/\/corsicalovers.fr\/en\/best-places-in-corsica-tourism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our favorite places in Corsica<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>The exploration is fun with several small coves and many rocks. Some are smooth because of the water, others are cut. There&#8217;s even one that&#8217;s been cut cleanly in half. is the historical capital of Corsica, located in the mountains and in the heart of the island.<br\/>It offers a spectacular setting, with a 15th century citadel and 360\u00b0 views of the mountains.<br\/>It is an excellent starting point to explore the mountains of Corsica. We recommend:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Walk through the streets of the old town<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Visit Museum dedicated to Corsica and its history. Each room is dedicated to a different part of the Corsican culture. It does not overload you with information. These are coastal paths for the surveillance of the island. Al\u00e9ria and Mariana were the 2 main Roman colonies of Corsica.<\/p>\n\n<p>For Al\u00e9ria, the location was ideal, with an important river and good land for crops. Aleria, founded in the 6th century BC, is considered the oldest city in Corsica. Nowadays you can visit the ruins with a breathtaking view of the area and the museum.<\/p>\n\n<p>In Mariana, you will discover another archaeological site and a museum in a modern concrete and glass building. You will find there the collections resulting from the archaeological excavations carried out for more than 50 years in the area.
