Walk in the old center and around the port<\/h2>\n\n<p>Start with the port, it has a vibrant life during the day and night. The historical center is organized around the Doria beach and its fountain.<br\/>Find the church of St. Anne, the most remarkable with its pointed tower that overhangs the roofline. Its architecture is really surprising. Cathedral of Sant Maria Assunta (Nebbio)<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Corsica-Lovers\/Saint-Florent\/n-k7GdVh\/Cathedrale\/i-T446vt7\/0\/a724e35b\/L\/Saint_florent_cathedrale_nebbio-L.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The other building not to be missed during a visit to St. Florentine is the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta.<br\/>In terms of architecture, don&#8217;t expect to see one of the huge French cathedrals.<br\/>Also called the Cathedral of Nebbio, it dates from the 12th century and is more the size of a church. Nebbio was a diocese and a Genoese province.<\/p>\n\n<p>You can already admire it from the outside. It is of Pisan Romanesque architecture in white limestone. It has a central nave with pillars on each side and a semi-circular apse.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Corsica-Lovers\/Saint-Florent\/n-k7GdVh\/Cathedrale\/i-w7Shtbm\/0\/bc0457ab\/L\/Saint_florent_cathedrale_interieur-L.jpg\" alt=\"Nebbio cathedral - interior\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>If you are in Saint-Florent between July and September, you can visit it every day except Sunday.<br\/>In this sober interior, you will discover the relics of Saint Flor, sculptures, statues  <\/p>\n\n<p>Practical info: the cathedral is not in the old town, but on the D238 road inland (less than 1km).<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tab-con-2\">4. Swimming at La Roya beach<\/h2>\n\n<p>You have several beaches around the city of Saint-Florent.<br\/>Some are easily accessible.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Corsica-Lovers\/Saint-Florent\/n-k7GdVh\/Plage-La-Roya\/i-zLSKWqd\/0\/faa3fd72\/L\/Saint_florent_plage_Roya_paddle-L.jpg\" alt=\"Beach of La Roya\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Beach of La Roya<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>The main beach of Saint-Florent is La Roya. The most famous is the beach of Saleccia (one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/corsicalovers.fr\/plus-belles-plages-de-corse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">best beaches in Corsica<\/a>). Savour Corsica &#8211; the best restaurants in Saint-Florent<\/h2>\n\n<p>You can have good gastronomic pleasures in Saint-Florent with fresh seafood and fish, Corsican wine&#8230;<br\/>In terms of restaurants we recommend<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Restaurant La Gaffe<\/strong><br\/>When a Breton gets lost on the quays of a beautiful Corsican port, it gives La gaffe. The lobster from the Gulf of Saint-Florent is served alongside the Norman oyster from Isigny and the Corsican suckling pig is confit with Patrimonio wine. You can enjoy it raw in sushi or sashimi or cooked with vegetables and flowers from the garden. A favorite is the Proven\u00e7al-style bass, caramelized fennel and parsley tuile&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Restaurant Delfino<\/strong><br\/>On the beautiful beach of the Ospedale, a magnificent terrace overlooking the sea. You can enjoy simple, healthy and good food. We like to nibble a truffled focaccia with the sea as our only horizon.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tab-con-11\">11. Eat an ice cream<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Corsica-Lovers\/Saint-Florent\/n-k7GdVh\/Saint-Florent-Ville\/i-FJQM9Nf\/0\/9608bba9\/L\/Saint_florent_glaces-L.jpg\" alt=\"Glaciers in Saint-Florent\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p><br\/>There&#8217;s also a delicious artisanal ice-cream parlour that you shouldn&#8217;t miss if you like it, Maison Rovere, located along the harbour among the caf\u00e9s and restaurants. There may be a line in season, but it&#8217;s not for nothing, the ice cream and sorbets are delicious. We sacrificed ourselves for you, and tested&#8230;<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tab-con-11\">12. Driving north around Cap Corse<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Corsica\/9c-Cote-ouest-cap-Corse\/i-rpbDt5S\/1\/9db6fc9f\/L\/plage_albo_cap_Corse-8-L.jpg\" alt=\"Excursions from St Florent - Cap Corse 1\" title=\"Excursions from St Florent - Cap Corse 1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The main day trip from Saint Florent is of course the Cap Corse tour.<br\/>The northern part of the island is one of the most famous regions.<br\/>The visit can be done in one day, although we recommend two days to do some walking. See <a href=\"https:\/\/corsicalovers.fr\/en\/visit-cap-corse-corsica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">our complete guide to planning your Cap Corse tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Corsica\/8b-Erbalunga\/i-q3SpKb7\/1\/16121bfb\/XL\/Erbalunga_cap_Corse-10-XL.jpg\" alt=\"Excursions from St Florent - Cap Corse 2\" title=\"Excursions from St Florent - Cap Corse 2\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Erbalunga<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Cap Corse is a wild region with only a few villages and impressive mountains plunging into the sea.<br\/><a href=\"https:\/\/corsicalovers.fr\/en\/nonza-corsica-village-cap-corse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Nonza<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/corsicalovers.fr\/en\/village-erbalunga-corsica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Erbalunga<\/a> are worth a visit. And it is the only place to find black beaches in Corsica. However, the color is not due to volcanic ash (as in other countries) but to an old abandoned asbestos mine on the coast.<br\/>It is a wild jewel not to be missed!<\/p>\n\n<p>Allow 4 hours of driving (non-stop time) to do the complete tour.<br\/>Pretty easy to drive, but there are some narrow passages on the west coast where passing a bus is a challenge&#8230;.<br\/>I recommend driving counter-clockwise for the best views.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"t-1640195612150\">13. Driving south to \u00cele-Rousse and the Balagne villages<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Corsica\/7a-ile-rousse\/i-wz2JxW6\/1\/ec4c0f2b\/L\/ile_rousse_Corse-52-L.jpg\" alt=\"Excursions from St Florent - ile rousse 1\" title=\"Excursions from St Florent - ile rousse 1\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>Otherwise, you can head south.<br\/>Take the D81 along the Agriates desert, stop at the fabulous beach of Ostriconi and continue to Ile-Rousse.<br\/>Here you can discover a city very different from Saint-Florent, built by Pascal Paoli.<\/p>\n\n<p>Take the time to walk to the lighthouse of Pietra on the main island.<br\/>This way you can see the intense color up close and you get fantastic views of the mountains of Corsica.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u00cele-Rousse is 1 hour drive from Saint-Florent. Visit the village of Lama<\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Corsica-Lovers\/n-WcgjTp\/Balagne\/Village-Lama\/i-jxLWmjT\/0\/3f944bae\/L\/Village_Lama-1-L.jpg\" alt=\"Lama village\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<p>The nearest village on the edge of the Balagne region, which we love, is Lama, one of the <a href=\"https:\/\/corsicalovers.fr\/en\/best-villages-corsica\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">most beautiful in Corsica<\/a>.<br\/>It is an hour&#8217;s drive from Saint-Florent.<br\/>It&#8217;s full of narrow lanes in all directions and offers beautiful mountain views.<br\/>What&#8217;s more, like us, you&#8217;re sure to be surprised by a few middle-class houses with Italian-inspired architecture.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tab-con-9\">Visit St-Florent, Corsica &#8211; parking and access<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>We found St. Florent to be one of the easiest cities to visit in Corsica.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It has large parking lots near the marina, the Citadel and the stadium.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parking lots are not free from May to October<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The city is surrounded by mountains but not too hilly. It is therefore easy to explore on foot<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are beautiful walkways along the harbor and it is easy to get around.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How long to visit Saint-Florent<\/h3>\n\n<p>For the center of Saint-Florent, 1 hour of visit is enough.<br\/>But to explore the region with the Agriates desert and Patrominio, count at least 2 days.<br\/>But Saint-Florent is also an excellent destination for vacations in Corsica, alternating beaches and exploration of northern Corsica.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Travel\/Corsica\/10a-St-Florent\/i-QVnsgh3\/5\/45c0c11b\/L\/saint-florent_Corse-11-L.jpg\" alt=\"View on Saint-Florent and the mountains\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best time to visit Saint-Florent<\/h3>\n\n<p>Saint-Florent is a popular destination.<br\/>So if you can, avoid the summer vacation months (July and August).<br\/>For a pleasant water temperature, prefer late June to early October.<br\/>Otherwise the landscapes are beautiful all year round.<\/p>\n\n<p>If you have no choice and are traveling in summer, visit early and book your boat tours in advance.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1 day in Saint Florent<\/h3>\n\n<p>With only one day in Saint-Florent:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit the center, the cathedral and tour the citadel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Walk to the beach of La Roya<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore the hills and vineyards of Patrimonio<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Or skip the city and take the boat to the Agriates desert, if you are interested in nature.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2 or 3 days in Saint Florent<\/h3>\n\n<p>With 2 or 3 days, we think that the Agriates desert is a must for tourism in Saint-Florent.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Day 1: city tour, cathedral, citadel, Roya beach and Patrimonio tower<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Day 2: boat to Lotu beach and hike in the Agriates desert<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Day 3: Either around Cap Corse or down to \u00cele-Rousse  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1 week in Saint Florent<\/h3>\n\n<p>If you have more time, you can alternate the activities listed above with relaxing days at the beach.<br\/>Or you can explore the mountains around Saint-Florent and even go to the town of Corte in the heart of the island.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More &#8211; Can you visit the calanques de Piana from Saint-Florent?<\/h3>\n\n<p>No. Don&#8217;t try a day trip to Porto and the Calanques de Piana. It doesn&#8217;t look very far on the map, but it&#8217;s a long way because it&#8217;s a small winding road.<br\/>That said, the Gulf of Porto is one of our favorite regions in Corsica, so we recommend you go there.
