Our review<\/h2>\n\n<p>Yes, the hike is worth the detour! This walk through the heart of the For\u00eat de l&#8217;Osp\u00e9dale seduced us with its diversity of landscapes and impressive rock formations. We particularly appreciated the views over the unspoilt nature of southern Corsica, and the sea on the horizon. We recommend that you wear suitable hiking boots to avoid slipping on uneven surfaces.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Crossing the river<\/strong><br\/>A wider section of the river requires you to walk over a pile of rocks and branches. Ride at a gentle pace, as the route has many twists and turns, some of them quite sharp. As a landmark, you&#8217;ll pass Lac de l&#8217;Osp\u00e9dale along the way. On the road, you&#8217;ll see signs pointing to the Piscia di Ghjaddu waterfall. Spring and autumn offer ideal conditions, with greener vegetation and mild temperatures. Check weather conditions before you go. Follow the yellow signs to the waterfall viewpoint, then turn back along the same path. We followed the yellow directional signs to the waterfall on one side and the reception area on the other, making it easy to find your way around the trail. The abundant vegetation surrounds you from the very first steps: majestic tall pines, varied shrubs, wild plants and colorful flowers create a remarkable natural setting.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Corsica-Lovers\/Roccapina\/n-Sqkgqq\/Piscia-di-Ghjaddu\/i-HKPFdp3\/0\/NKC7xJxp8xwB4FBGRQH8BRLFDG2LtX8PLmVBv7dHb\/L\/depart%20randonnee%20Piscia%20Ghjaddu%20Corse%20Sud-L.jpg\" alt=\"Departure\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Departure<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>The terrain is dotted with large, relatively flat, light-colored rocks typical of the South Corsican landscape. The uneven trail alternates between hard-packed earth and tree roots, requiring constant attention to secure your footing. To cross it, we stepped on a pile of rocks of varying sizes and tree branches, creating a natural balancing act. We managed not to get our feet wet during the crossing, which requires a bit of concentration and agility. Shortly after this passage, you&#8217;ll notice a slight rise that heralds the exit from the forest and a change in the landscape.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/photos.smugmug.com\/Corsica-Lovers\/Roccapina\/n-Sqkgqq\/Piscia-di-Ghjaddu\/i-MV2ST9P\/0\/Lv76mMTcQpkWDLGvctMjrpXhnnHGGJsLNdKmNnQKz\/L\/traversee%20riviere%20randonnee%20Piscia%20Ghjaddu%20Corse%20Sud-L.jpg\" alt=\"Piscia di Ghjaddu - Acrobatic river crossing\"\/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The view of the rock formations and the sea<\/h2>\n\n<p>The landscape suddenly changes to reveal the summit of the impressive rock formations that dominate the valley. But the highlight of the show was the discovery of the sea on the horizon, creating a striking contrast with the forest environment we had just explored! We sat down for a few minutes to contemplate this exceptional panorama, which unites land, sea and mountains in a grandiose natural tableau. You&#8217;ll certainly appreciate this well-deserved break to savor the unspoiled beauty of southern Corsica. We were particularly impressed by the <em>tafoni<\/em>, cavities carved into the rock by the erosion of alternating rain and wind over the millennia. Ghjaddu waterfall<\/h2>\n\n<p>As you descend towards the waterfall, you&#8217;ll come across a <em>sapara<\/em>, a rock shelter typical of Corsican pastoral heritage. Unfortunately, we saw a sign prohibiting access to the final section of the trail, limiting our progress towards the base of the waterfall. This last section was closed to the public at the time of our visit, for safety reasons related to ground conditions. Freshly squeezed fruit juices and refreshing smoothies are on offer, as are simple dishes such as chicken-avocado tacos, burgers and Corsican charcuterie. The prospect of a cool, fruity drink at the finish particularly motivated us to retrace our route with gusto, knowing that a gourmet reward awaited us.
